Making higher education affordable is a big issue today as the cost of degrees and student debt grows over time. 70% of undergraduate students graduate with an average debt of $30,000.
One way the government is trying to relieve some of that burden from students who are working to better their lives through education is through the Loan Forgiveness policy. This policy works to give students opportunities in public service while easing the burden of student loans. “The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.”
Within this program, many regulations and restrictions apply. More information on loan forgiveness can be found here.
